Hue Court Refurb Underway

Work to refurbish Hue Court can now start, after a £15.1 million loan was approved by the Treasury Minister.

Both high-rise buildings, 90 units in total, will be worked on by Rok Construction over the next 74 weeks.

Internal work includes a full rewire, new plumbing, insulation and ventilation upgrades as well as new kitchens and bathrooms. Sprinklers will also be installed to all flats and communal areas.

Both buildings will have new windows and a new roof. The lower portion of the buildings will be externally insulated with a new finish.

The basement will get new lighting, sprinklers and fire upgrades.

When finished, all units will be offered to Health workers as much needed key worker accommodation in order to meet actions identified for Andium Homes in the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry.

Frank Walker OBE, Andium Homes Chairman, says the body is working hard to reach its lofty targets.

"I believe Andium Homes is the most appropriate vehicle to deliver affordable housing for Keyworkers in Jersey. The refurbishment of Hue Court provides an excellent opportunity to do this and has been welcomed by Health and Community Services and the Minister for Children and Housing.

We are working hard to increase the supply of homes for all Islanders and are on site now delivering 760 new homes, towards our target of 3,000 new homes by 2030."

Existing residents in the first block have already been moved to new homes elsewhere - many of them to newly refurbished flats at Plaisant Court.

Andium says it is supporting residents in the second block to move into other accommodation, They'll be prioritised for new Andium housing projects, including at Samares.

Of the 90 flats, 84 are two-bed and the other six are one-bed.

Junior doctors currently based at 'The Limes' will be among the key workers to move in to Hue Court when work has finished, to allow 'The Limes' site to be developed into new affordable housing.

Health Minister, Deputy Richard Renouf, says this will be of massive help to the department and its workers.

"I am well aware of the excellent standard of Keyworker accommodation that Andium delivered at The Limes and am delighted with their latest proposals for Hue Court. The recruitment and retention of our staff is a challenge for us and there is no doubt that the standard of housing previously available has contributed to that.

"We should be able to offer our Keyworkers good quality accommodation in an appropriate location and I believe Hue Court will provide just that."
