Waste Vote To Go Ahead
17th July 2017
A debate and vote about introducing commercial waste water charges is set to go ahead in the States on Tuesday.
That is despite Scrutiny saying it should be postponed for more consultation.
Infrastructure Minister Deputy Eddie Noel says a delay is not necessary.
He says the new charges are in line with the common ‘polluter pays’ principles, and that they won’t have have a significant impact on the economy.
Under the plans, businesses will have to pay for liquid waste disposal from next March at a rate of 50% of the proposed fee. The full charge would take effect in 2019.
Business groups have urged politicians to vote against them.
