UK Foreign Office Responds To Groves’ Petition

13th February 2018
The UK Foreign Office has responded to a demand for help from the family of Guernsey woman Sarah Groves.
The 24 year old was murdered on a houseboat in Kashmir nearly five years ago.
A petition has been set up asking Boris Johnson to make a formal complaint to the Indian authorities about the conduct of a trial that has lasted since June 2013.
Richard De Wit is accused of killing her, but there is still no end in sight for the case.
A spokesperson says the Foreign Office says:
“We want Sarah’s killer to be brought to justice just as her family does, and we will continue to help them however we can.”
It adds that the government has raised concerns directly with Indian authorities, but it cannot interfere in the independent legal proceedings of another country.
Over 8,500 people have signed the petition so far.
