Summer Holiday Roadworks Begin
Work to resurface the St Clement’s inner road is underway.
It starts by Samares Manor and continue towards Le Rocquier School through the summer holidays.
There’ll be closures on weekdays between 9 in the morning and 11 at night.
Director of Transport Tristan Dodd explains why it needs doing.
“This road has not been resurfaced for 31 years. Now its come to the time that it needs maintenance, the surface is starting to deteriorate.
“Off peak, after 9am, we’ll be working on the road and (motorists) will be diverted onto the coast road around our works which will start at Samares Manor”
This is the first phase of work on the road. It will continue during the Autumn Half Term with the section between Manor Close and Plat Douet Road.
The remaining section, outside Samares Nurseries Housing Development, will be resurfaced when the housing development is nearing completion, before the homes are occupied.
Today marks the start of a summer full of travel disruption.
Wellington Road in St Saviour is one way down the hill until 3rd September so Jersey Water can renew the water mains.
It says the work is crucial as the current water main dates back to the pre-1930s.
There’s no access from St Saviour’s Road into Wellington Road until 3rd September.
Diversions are in place to divert traffic via St Saviour’s Hill and Mont Millais Hill.
Meanwhile a section of Princes Tower Road is shut for the next five weeks so Jersey electricity can install a substation.
