States To Appoint Standards Commissioner

18th October 2015

A new position is set to be created to investigate complaints about politicians’ conduct.

They could be paid up to £400 a day to look into alleged breaches of the States Members’ Code

Currently, cases where a politician is thought to have acted improperly are referred to Privileges and Procedures.

But two yearsa ago the States agreed that it would be fairier to have an independent and objective ‘Commissioner of Standards’.

They are now being asked to approve the role.

PPC is recommending a daily pay rate of £300-400, but says the number of complaints is small so it shouldn’t cost more than £10,000 a year.
