Simon Marshall

Simon Marshall presents the music & sport show on Saturday afternoons on 103 between 2pm and 6pm. He also 'fills in a bit' !

I became interested in all things electrical at a very early age, when I was at school I was the sound and lighting technician for the school productions, this lead in turn to a spell of working as a technician in local theatres. I trained as and electrician when I left school and kept a interest in lighting and sound through repairing and building things for friends that ran mobile discos, so inevitably that lead to me playing around and starting  on my way to being a Dj. I worked for a large security firm as a Technical Sales engineer and travelled the length and breadth of the UK before deciding that I couldn’t keep burning the candle at both ends. So about 7 years ago I decided to take up Dj’ing (and freelance Sound & Lighting) as a full time career.

My involvement in Radio happen by accident, I was hiring a PA system to a newly set up radio Station 107.7 WFM, when the Managing Director heard me and one of the presenters messing about on the Mic’s with the crowd and told the program controller to “Get him trained up and on Air”. My Spell at WFM was an enjoyable time, but I was also running my business and had very little time to concentrate on my radio career, therefore short lived.

I moved to Jersey about 2 ½ years ago on a one year contract, fell in love with the place and a local (yes it was a girl!!!) and am still here. After getting to know one of the presenters at 103 I was asked if I would like to try out on the basis of doing some cover shifts. Now I present Saturday Afternoons (and any other shifts the proper Dj’s don’t fancy getting up for).

3 Who is your favourite group/artist? Difficult I have so many I’m into Newton Faulkner in a big way right now

4 What made you want to be a radio presenter/newsreader? I didn’t. I got into radio by accident!!!

5 When did you join 103? August 2007

6 What is your favourite 103 moment (on or off air)? Haven’t really been here long enough for this one to count, but the Gorey fete OB was cool.

7 What is the best concert you have ever been to? Massive Attack’s home coming gig (they weren’t that good, but the Streets were)
