The Breakfast Show with Peter Mac

Peter Mac is on the air weekday mornings from 6am on the Channel 103 Breakfast Show.

Here's a few bits about the man himself...

I burst onto planet Earth all naked, slimy and screaming on February 3rd 1961 just a spit away from the station (if you are a very good spitter) and nothing much has changed since.

I learnt to read, write and play Top Trumps at La Moye primary school although the ‘girls’ game Elastics has still got me beat!

I then moved on to Les Quennevais School for some serious secondary education where I learnt about the wonders of algebra, making a farting noise by putting your hand under your armpit and squeezing and how to be gratuitously ignored by girls.

Thankfully, I got the knack of girls (eventually) and went on to father five children, the eldest of which is my 26 year old daughter and the youngest (another girl) is, now three years old!

My Dad always told me that I ‘should have a trade behind me’ and I have. I qualified as a fairly average electrician in 1983 and gave it all up for the music in 1984 (my employees at the time weren’t too chuffed that they had spent thousands training me to be a sparks only for me to jack it all in so that I could play Howard Jones tunes to drunks in pubs, clubs and at wedding ‘doos’.

Before my time at Channel 103, I spent many a long and happy year on stage at La Buvette, Jersey’s first 'fun pub'which became something of a legend on the island and it is there that I honed my ability to talk a whole load of c**p between songs.

I did my first show on Channel 103 on Sunday 25th October 1992, the day the station was born. It was in fact, the first four hour show ever on air and I was awful (very nervous, my stomach still flips at the thought!). When I was first taken on at the station it was for a couple of weekend afternoon shows. Eventually I was offered the weekday afternoon show and finally the breakfast show which I have been ruining my sleep patterns to present since February 3rd 1996 (my 35th birthday!).

As I aim to live to well over 100 years old, there is a whole load more to come on the biography which, between you and me, has skipped rather speedily through my lifetime’s achievements.

Questions :

1 Where were you born? Jersey

2 What was the first record you bought? Single, The Laughing Gnome by David Bowie. LP Gilbert O'Sullivan 'Back To Front' (hello Ray!)

3 Who is your favourite group/artist? There are far too many to mention. I tend to go for different sorts of music depending on my mood

4 What made you want to be a radio presenter? As a ‘Personality Deejay’ for many years, I vowed to get off the stage by the time my eldest daughter reached 18 (for her sake as much as mine). Radio seemed the obvious choice and here I am!

What is your all-time favourite record? Don't have one
