Joe Hawkins
He's on the air every Saturday morning for the Channel 103 Saturday breakfast show. Catch him between 7am and 11am.
Getting to know Joe Hawkins :
A long time ago in a far away land known as Torquay, a boy was born. A boy that was so talented vocally, after a spell announcing the balls at his local bingo hall ended up working at the fantastic Tunnel Street Studios.
Yes, I'm Joe Hawkins the front man of the fun and frolics that is The Saturday Morning Breakfast Show. I first moved to Jersey in 2005, working in the 103 news team. After presenting the Saturday afternoon Music & Sport Show for the second half of 2006 I was begged to leave the world of football and turn to something I may be half good at - waking you all up on a Saturday morning - and with a bang too!
I love working at 103 and I have enjoyed the experiences I have had in radio since 1999. It's my passion and I think the most rewarding part for me (other than a happy bank manager) is putting a smile on the listeners face! I try to make Saturday mornings as fun as possible. It's the start of the weekend and I think it's good to have a laugh. Listening to some presenters on other stations, you can almost sense a front or falseness. I am just myself from the first minute to the very last - and I love every second.
Tune in between 7 and 11 every Saturday morning to hear a show fuelled by nothing but an eccentric young man, 8 tea bags and half a pint of semi-skimmed.
Questions :
1 Where were you born? The English Riviera - Torquay. Sun, sea, sand. What more can I say ?
2 What was the first record you bought? Clock - 'Oh What a Night!' in October 1996. Thinking about it, not a brilliant record ! But I was only 11....
3 Who is your favourite group/artist? A Difficult one though probably Dame Edna Everage. Okay - not known for her chart hits, but what a voice !
4 What made you want to be a radio presenter? I love music and I love speaking to anybody who likes to listen. Simple as that !
5 When did you join 103? October 2005. I had a phone call from Sir Peter when I was staying in Plymouth and jumped at the chance.
6 What is your favourite 103 moment (on or off air)? Probably having the Baroness Bichard Live on air last June before I went away to Carlisle for a bit. Hilarious and chaotic !
7 What is the best concert you have ever been to? Erasure - Plymouth Pavilions - 2002. Andy Bell stripped throughout down to nothing but a pair of rubber trunks. My 11 year old cousin hit the floor.
8 What is your all-time favourite record? When you have such a great taste in music like me(!) it's difficult to decide - but top of the pack is Village People - 'Go West'
9 If you hadn't been a radio presenter what would you have been? I've always wanted to be train driver. Don't ask why. Think it's probably just the thought of wearing a hat.....
