New Playground For St Mary
There is a new place for children to play in St Mary.
A playground has been created on one of the former tennis courts behind the parish hall.
It has taken 18 months, and cost £62,000.
Half of that money has been raised by the community, with the parish match-funding the project.
The play-area is getting its official opening this afternoon.
Howard Snowden, former chairman of the St Mary Youth and Community Centre steered it to completion:
“It’s going to be a big benefit to all of the children who use the community centre. We have a community centre, tennis court and play area for the children, and a grass area as well – so for a small parish we are very fortunate indeed in having a great facility there for the community.”
Tina Diwhurst who runs the local Kids’ Club is delighted:
“We have got quite a lot of young families now in the parish. We are very lucky to have such open fields and grounds up here anyway, and to have an official playground as well is just wonderful. Our kids think it is just for them! But of course it’s for the whole community.”
