Jersey Triathlete Heading To Greece
A De La Salle student has been chosen to represent Ireland in the upcoming European Triathlon Championships in Greece.
15 year old Jack Kennedy is from Jersey, but qualifies for Ireland through his father and grandparents.
He’ll compete against 90 other athletes in Loutraki between the 29th August and 2nd September.
“I found out about a week ago and I was really excited! I’ve been training towards it for a quite long time and the hard work is starting to pay off. It’s a good feeling!”
Jack will take on a a 500 metre swim, 12 kilometre bike ride and 3 kilometre run over the three days.
As well as performing individually, he will also form part of the Irish Mixed Relay team, a format of the sport which is becoming more and more popular since being introduced as a race for the Olympics in Tokyo for 2020.
Jack says he’s keen to show what he’s capable of.
“I will be going there to be competitive, but it will be a learning experience. I’ll be in this age group for the next couple of years. It’ll be more of an experience this year and hopefully in the next couple of years, I’ll be going there to do really well.”
The teenager will also complete in the elite youth race as part of Super League Triathlon Jersey at the end of September.
