Jersey Reds’ Head Coach says he is feeling confident ahead of one of the biggest matches in the club’s history.

The island’s rugby side face Munster A in the British and Irish Cup final this evening, days after securing their highest ever league position of 5th in Rugby’s Championship.

Harvey Biljon says Jersey “deserve to be there”, adding: “You don’t get to a final by mistake.”

He’s urged his players to “believe”.

“We know everything’s against us – we’re away from home against a very, very strong team – but ultimately we can be confident in our performances throughout the season.”

Biljon concludes: “Let’s go out there and put in a performance and do our best to bring home some silverware.”

An estimated 200 Jersey fans are expected at the match, which kicks off at Cork’s Irish Independent Park at 19:30.

Around half are making the trip to Ireland on charter flights organised by the club.

A plane carrying the squad and 38 supporters left Jersey on Thursday evening, with a second aircraft due to take off at 10:00 on Friday.

Biljon says the support will make “a huge difference”.

“The players and coaches and management really appreciate it,” he says.

“Especially when you’re away from home and you hear that support and you know they’re behind you, it will definitely make a difference and give us that lift.”

Hundreds more fans are expected at Jersey Reds’ clubhouse in St Peter, where the match will be screened live.

Doors open at 17:30.
