Jersey Holds Its First Same-Sex Marriage
Jersey’s first same sex marriage has taken place.
The ceremony happened at noon at the Registrar’s Office.
Officials say several more are booked to take place in the coming months.
The new law that allows same-sex couples to wed came into force on 1st July.
Superintendent Registrar Claire Follain officiated.
She says it was a special occasion.
“We are delighted that this important piece of new legislation is now in place, and that same sex couples can celebrate their commitment to each other, and enjoy the ceremony of marriage in Jersey.
“I had the pleasure of officiating at the first ceremony and it was very special.
“We look forward to welcoming other same sex couples to be married in Jersey as the year goes on, and offer our warm congratulations to our first couple who have made history in Jersey today.”
