Inquiry Turns Attention To Operation Rectangle

20th October 2015

Jersey’s Bailiff has been called to give evidence to the Care Inquiry.

It is as the investigation has entered its second phase, examining the Historical Abuse Enquiry which opened in 2008.

So far the inquiry’s heard from people who spent their youth in care, those who worked in children’s homes and some past policy-makers.

Now attention turns to the timing of Operation Rectangle, the three year police probe that centred on Haut de la Garenne.

It will consider how police responded to allegations, if the people responsible for prosecuting alleged abusers took a professional approach, and if there was any political interference.

It has been confirmed that former Attorney General now Bailiff William Bailhache has been called to give evidence.
