Eight Runners Preparing For 108 Mile Challenge

14th April 2018
A group of islanders are preparing for a mammoth challenge – running around the coastlines of Jersey, Guernsey, Sark, Alderney and Herm in just 48 hours!
That time deadline involves travelling to each island, which means the eight-man team will only have around 24 hours to actually run the 108 mile distance.
Phil Clarke organised the ‘Five Rocks Ultra’ challenge. He told us how it came about.
“We pulled the idea together towards the beginning of the year with a couple of us having undertaken some marathons and 10K races. We thought, what could we do that goes a little bit further and spans across all the islands? So we came up with the concept of running around all of them!”
Phil (28) will be joined on the venture by Craig Barrie (54), Jamie Ellis (45), Zach Mahe (47), Steve Meredith (38), Jon Stevens (37), Bryan Wilkins (36) and Garry Yeardley (37).
The effort is due to start on the 7th of June.
Phil says it’s all aimed at helping two local causes.
“We’re raising funds for Mind Jersey and Guernsey. I think mental health is something that’s not commonly spoken about between men.”
