1/3 Of Jersey Deaths Premature

15th June 2018

Nearly a third of all deaths in Jersey between 2014 and 2016 were premature.

The rate is lower than in England.

A premature death is defined as someone dying under the age of 75.

Almost half of all cancer deaths over the three years were under that age.

Although in most causes, Jersey is comparable to England, the rate of deaths from lung cancer is classed as ‘significantly worse’ than average, with the island ranked 118th out of 151 regions.
